Bicycle Month Lecture

Don't miss Friday's Bicycle Month Lecture
at the Old Town Hall in Almonte. Here's what to expect:

The bicycle re-invented the idea of personal
boundaries in the 19th century by allowing people
to venture beyond familiar terrain. The automobile
went on to usurp this opportunity, but in recent
years it has re-emerged as a guiding principle
in urban design, driven by issues of public
health, climate change, civic equity and an end
to the car's dominance.

William Humber, an activist for urban revitalization
and author of The History of Cycling in Canada,
will describe the bicycle's role in transforming
lifestyles and rebuilt environments in the 19th century,
and its contemporary potential for reshaping our ideas
about living places from small towns and rural settings
to mid-sized communities and magapolitan regions.

Thanks to the Mississippi Mills Residents' Association for sponsoring this event!

Date: Friday, 19 June 2009
