Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann shaffer and Annie Barrows

This is a great novel for everyone to enjoy! Through delightful correspondence, various members of the unusually named "society" share their memories of life during the German occupation of Guernsey with Juliet Ashton, an author looking for a new subject. Great characters, like the kind you see in British tv shows, are brought to life. According to Chris, it's wonderful slice of life experience!

BLOODY JACK SERIES by L.A. Meyer

I love this historical fiction series about a feisty character named Mary "Jacky" Faber. In the first novel, set in the late 1700's, Mary is an orphan surviving on the streets of London when she decides to disguise herself and gain passage as ship's boy. Her adventures are exciting and entertaining - and I also learned lots about ships. I became addicted to these books and have been neglecting family, friends and responsibilities to enjoy more tales of Jackie's unpredictable life. Great for teens - and adults like me!

Eat Shrink and Be Merry

Eat Shrink and Be Merry by Janet and Greta Podleski
Each recipe I've tried has tasted good ... and the cartoons, corny recipe names and practical nutrition tips make it much more fun than a regular cookbook!! Grainman is a bulgur salad with cranberries, pecans and mint. Girl-Guy Cookies combine peanut butter and ginger. Yum

The Stone Carvers

The Stone Carvers Jane Urquhart
I recently listened to this story on cd - having read it years ago - and found it a brilliant Canadian story with great characters. It provides context to the construction of the Vimy Ridge War Memorial and would make an excellent read for anyone travelling to see the restoration.

The Memory Keeper's Daughter

The Memory Keeper's Daughter Kim Edwards
This book is based on one deception - a misguided, well-intentioned husband lies to his wife about the birth of her twins. This has far-reaching consequences. Tension, despair and hope alternate and keep the reader totally engaged.

The Girls

The Girls by Lori Lansens

I loved this book about 2 sisters conjoined at the head. Each sister takes a turn with the narrative - and their experiences are quirky, touching and very believable. It reminded me a bit of Too Close To The Falls.
