Champagne, Truffles and Treasure

Janet Carlile, one of Canada's best known independent antiques appraisers, will be focused on the hidden treasures of Mississippi Mills and Lanark County at a fundraising event in Almonte on Sunday, September 28, 2008. Guests of the Champagne, Truffles and Treasure fundraiser will enjoy a champagne reception with live music and the chance to have their fine art and antiques appraised by one of the Antiques Roadshow's most recognized experts. All proceeds from the event will assist Fairview Manor, a long-term residence attached to the Almonte General Hospital, with the purchase of a much-needed patient lift.

"Since I don’t live very far away, I know that there are treasures galore to be found in the attics and basements of the Mississippi Valley," says Ms. Carlile, who asks that people only bring their portable antiques to the event. 'I am really looking forward to discovering those special finds and to connecting people with the unique history of their family keepsakes."

Champagne, Truffles and Treasure has been organized by Arts in the Manor (AIM), a committee of volunteers charged with soliciting and selecting original works of art to hang in the new Fairview Manor. "AIM is all about bringing the joy and beauty of art to the residents of The Manor, and their visitors," says AIM Chair Susan Kilburn. "Janet has a true passion for arts and antiques and we are thrilled that she will be share her enthusiasm and expertise with us for this fundraising event. If you've seen her on television, you know that she can reveal astounding information about the history and value of antiques that people have pulled out of dusty closets."

Tickets are available at The Miller's Tale bookstore, 52 Mill Street, Almonte (613-256-9090). A ticket that includes an appraisal is $40. Without an appraisal, admission is set at $25.
