"100 Angels for Haiti"
September 21, 2008

Dear friends,

The storms were relentless: Aug 15, Fay. Aug 26, Gustav. Sept 5, Hanna. Sept 8, Ike We've been eager for news from our friends at the Young Haitian Documentary Photographers Group, as they are in an area especially vulnerable to flooding. Jeff has been in email contact with Dieudonne Batraville, his host for his trips to this area. She described a terrifying scene of muddy water rushing like a river through what was once a road, families clinging to rooftops. Other reports describe bridges washed away and crops destroyed by flooding. One million Haitians are now homeless, many of them inaccessible to relief except by helicopter.
People need shelter, clean water and food before they can even think of rebuilding. This week Focus on Development, the non-profit group organized in Almonte to raise funds through photographs, sent its last $3,000 to Rayjon Sharecare, the agency Dieudonne manages in St Marc. This amount will be matched by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

The group is hoping to raise another $10,000 for hurricane relief in the next week through this "100 Angels for Haiti" appeal. "If 100 people send $100 each, that $10,000 will also be matched by CIDA and turned into $20,000," Jeff said.

Be an Angel for Haiti.
Send a cheque for $100 to: Focus on Development
