Lori Cullen's 2006 recording “Calling For Rain” was the nicest surprise of that year, and quickly became a regular in our personal rotation. It received a Juno nomination for Best Jazz Vocal in 2006. Sitting somewhere between folk and pop with a mix of jazz, there are echoes of Rickie Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell and Jane Siberry in Cullen’s music. She’s recently released another, Buttercup Bugle. Pick up your copy at Lori’s show, Saturday April 4, 8pm at the Almonte Old Town Hall. Lori will appear with a guitarist Kurt Swinghammer. And to start the night off right, Carleton Place’s own Peter Brown opens the show at the Steinway Grand. Be there, and be cool.
