Web Site Tutorial being offered by MAAP

Yo Chris,

On behalf of the Mississippi Mills Chamber of Commerce and the Mainstreets Association of Almonte and Pakenham, please consider this press release as something you could send out to your email list. The press release details a Web Site Tutorial being offered by MAAP to allow local businesses to create zero cost Web sites without the need to learn computer programming.

You can see a local example at http://www.glennawatts.vox.com, an Almonte upholsterer, if you would like to refer your readers to a site built with VOX.

Have a great weekend!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MAAP Offers Seminar to Put Local Businesses on the Internet MAP with Free Web Sites
Internet communications experts at Almonte’s market2world will lead tutorial on VOX software

MISSISSIPPI MILLS, 9 February, 2007 – Thanks to funding from the Valley Heartland Development Corporation, the Mainstreets Association for Almonte and Pakenham (MAAP) is sponsoring a “VOX Web Site Tutorial” for downtown Almonte and Pakenham businesses in building a multimedia-enabled Web site for zero cost. The seminar will take place Thursday, Feb. 15th at the Almonte Old Town Hall, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

Almonte’s market2world communications inc., a company that’s been featured in the Globe and Mail, Ottawa Citizen, on CTV and CBC radio for its innovative approach to online community-building, will be leading the seminar. VOX is a free new software service from Six Apart Ltd. of San Francisco. VOX accommodates audio, video and digital photo content in addition to text and graphics. With an email address and access to the Internet through even a public library computer, anyone can build and maintain a VOX Web site for zero cost and with no programming skills.

“MAAP wanted its own multimedia Web site that was easy to set up and maintain, and that could offer community-building hooks,” said Nathan Rudyk, President of market2world. “We’re always on the lookout for new technologies, and found VOX. We almost couldn’t believe it was a totally free service, and recognized that we could get lots of local merchants online and linking to each other with a ‘virtual main street’ as part of the MAAP downtown revitalization initiative.”

“MAAP's objective is to demonstrate to Almonte and Pakenham businesses that they can, like MAAP, build an online storefront with zero technology start-up or maintenance fees,” says MAAP Chairperson, Elizabeth Swarbrick. “The VOX software service allows any proprietor to perform Web site updates without technical staff or HTML knowledge, and connect to other community-minded businesses for co-operative marketing. People today use the Internet to locate anything from auto repair shops to renovators, so we really see this seminar as an opportunity to draw a lot of new business activity to Mississippi Mills.”
